Battle of the phablets – Galaxy Note 7 vs. iPhone 7 Plus

The Galaxy Note 7 was released a while back whereas the iPhone 7 Plus is set for release in the second week of September. While the Note 7 has had time to win over users with its functionality and specs, we can only hope that the iPhone 7 Plus will bring it’s A-game in order to live up to the Note 7 which has been around much longer. There are a number of similarities and differences between the two devices which we will look at.

Display

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has a 5.7 inch display with 518 ppi for pixel density. It makes use of Corning Gorilla glass and has established itself as a phablet with great display and sharp image focus. The iPhone 7 Plus on the other hand is expected to have a 5.5 inch display, 0.2 inches less than the Galaxy Note 7. It will have Quad HD display, Corning Gorilla glass and 536 ppi according to the rumor mills.

Processor and storage

While the iPhone 7 Plus is expected to use the A10 processor which is famous for its need for a lot of battery power, the Samsung Galaxy Note has the Exynos Ota 8810. Both these central processing units are the latest in the field and ensure high speed functionality in the devices.

The Galaxy Note 7 has 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal memory with the option to expand through micro SD card at up to 256 GB. This was a milestone for devices because combined the phone would have well over 300 GB of storage which is a whole lot. The iPhone 7 Plus on the other hand has 3 GB of RAM and  32, 128 and 256 GB of internal memory storage but without the option of micro SD expandable storage.

Camera

The Galaxy Note 7 has a 5 MP front facing camera and a 12 MP primary camera with OIS. It also has the iris scanner which was also a milestone as other devices have not entirely embraced the use of the iris scanner and are still dependent on the fingerprint scanner. Like the Note 7, the iPhone 7 Plus does have a fingerprint scanner but it does not have the iris scanner which makes transactions via a device more secure.  It similarly has a 5 MP front facing camera and a Dual lens 12 MP primary camera with IOS.

Other features

The Galaxy Note 7 blows the iPhone 7 Plus out of the water with its S-Pen Capacitive Stylus and IP68 Water and Dust proofing. The iPhone 7 Plus also holds one over the Note 7 with the inclusion of a smart connector which is more suitable for power users as it allows connectivity with keyboards via Bluetooth. It is also a step higher with the 3D Touch function.

Conclusion

Each of the phablets have their advantages over the other. The ultimate decision will be made once the iPhone 7 Plus is released. It is easier to test the functionality and come up with a more accurate, foolproof comparison of the devices once both are available to buyers.
